Cranberry Sauce Chronicles

Lyle and I hold close to our chests a highly prized top-secret family recipe, and it lives on the back of almost any bag of fresh cranberries. Follow that simple recipe for boiling cranberries in water with the addition of sugar and add these two things: several tablespoons of fresh orange zest and at least one tablespoon of freshly grated ginger. Carefully taste a cooled down bit of the cranberry sauce to determine if you want more of either of these zingy additions. We also always make a minimum of two bags worth as it takes zero extra time and gives us a perfect condiment to use with cottage cheese, roast pork or ham, even with unctuous cheese, throughout the holidays.

Tip: You can make this a week in advance and get it out of the way.
