Pastures Of Plenty – Here & Now in Taos, New Mexico
In 1993, Lyle Davis and Sylvia Tawse bought a rundown, 1887 farmhouse in Longmont, Colorado. They named their new, but very old farm, after the Woody Guthrie song, “Pastures of Plenty.” It was their vision to farm the 30 acres with cut flowers and vegetables, and create a “Field to Table experience”. In 2002, Chef Bobby Flay invited Lyle and Sylvia to join him on his Food Network show, Bobby Flay’s Food Nation. It was then that Lyle and Syl (as she is called) were informed that they were pioneers of the “Farm to Table” movement. This was the first time they had heard the phrase, “Farm to Table,” as opposed to the term they had created, “Field to Table”… Good to know!
In 2021 after 28 years of farming, food, celebrations, 4 kids and endless gatherings of family and friends, Lyle and Syl sold Pastures of Plenty. They bought an adobe home with several acres in the high pastures of Arroyo Seco just north of Taos, New Mexico. A new life in a new land and culture; and yet, as the Talking Heads song proclaims… “Same as it ever was.”
30 years after the purchase of the original Pastures of Plenty, Lyle and Syl are excited and proud to introduce their newest endeavor, Pastures of Plenty New Mexico. We want to immerse ourselves in our new community and the culture of New Mexico. We also hope to express our creativity and passion for food and agriculture as we celebrate our new home.
Peace and onward
May the party begin
